EFECHO, an environmental initiative, was initiated by Samba Siva Rao Ch with a goal to encourage everyone to contribute towards the betterment of our planet. The primary aim is to create a huge impact with small changes, both in homes and organisations. This movement has been met with positive feedback and impressive results. Do we really need to do the EFECHO?

Climate Change: The Earth’s climate is warming at an alarming rate, primarily due to human activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global temperatures have risen by about 1.1 degrees Celsius since the pre-industrial era. This warming trend is leading to more frequent and severe heatwaves, storms, and other extreme weather events.

Biodiversity Loss: The rate of species extinction is accelerating, with an estimated one million plant and animal species at risk of extinction in the coming decades. Habitat destruction, pollution, overexploitation, and climate change are among the key drivers of biodiversity loss. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), global wildlife populations have declined by 68% since 1970.

Pollution: Air, water, and soil pollution continue to pose significant threats to human health and the environment. Air pollution, primarily from vehicle emissions and industrial activities, is a major cause of respiratory diseases and premature deaths. Plastic pollution is also a growing concern, with an estimated 8 million tons of plastic entering the oceans each year.

Deforestation: Forests play a crucial role in regulating the climate, supporting biodiversity, and providing ecosystem services. However, deforestation continues at an alarming rate, primarily driven by agriculture, logging, and infrastructure development. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the world lost an average of 10 million hectares of forest per year between 2015 and 2020.

The need to conserve the environment is critical to address these challenges and ensure a sustainable future for all. Conservation efforts are essential to protect ecosystems, preserve biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and safeguard human health. By promoting sustainable practices, reducing waste and pollution, and advocating for policies that prioritize environmental protection, we can work towards a healthier planet for current and future generations.
